Clevedon – O gauge layout by John Serle

For his O gauge/7mm scale WC&PR layout, North Somerset modeller John Serle chose Clevedon Station as the subject due to the better opportunity to display a large number of prototypical locos and rolling stock at a single location. The sheds at Clevedon provided storage for three sets of coaches with locos, as well as a further two smaller locomotive sheds. Those, together with the GWR loop provide the opportunity on the layout to operate six locomotives as well as a single locomotive with coaches or wagons isolated at the station platform. The locomotives and rolling stock have been modelled for a period around 1935 and all those existing at that time are included in the layout except for the Tractor and smaller railcar.

Most of the coaches were scratch built from Plasticard. The ex-Metropolitan coaches were modified from Ken De Groome etchings. The locomotives Weston, Clevedon and Hesperus were all scratch built. No.5 and Walton Park were built from modified Agenoria etched kits and the two Terriers, No.4 and Portishead were built from ACE etched kits. The large Drewry railcar was an eBay purchase. The back-drop was hand painted by John using visuals generated using Google Maps and a degree of artist’s licence. The figures are Andrew Stadden castings hand painted by John.
